Obesity - Essay Example In some instances, obesity is caused by genes disorders, psychiatric illnesses, medications, or even endocrine disorders. Stern & Kazaks (2009) explains that the notion that obese people normally eat little food, but they are overweight because of a slow metabolism process in their body, is false. This is majorly because there is little evidence to support these facts. The major treatment of obesity includes exercising and dieting. Dieting involves improving the quality of food an individual takes, by reducing the consumption of food products that are full of energy (Stern & Kazaks, 2009). This includes food substances such as sugar, fats, etc. It is also recommended that an individual should consume food substances that are rich in dietary fiber. Furthermore, there is a need of taking the anti-obesity drugs, for purposes of reducing the appetite of fatty foods. If the use of dieting and exercising is not sufficient, then it is possible to treat obesity through the use of a gastric balloon or surgery. Surgery may help in reducing the volume of an individual’s stomach, or the length of their bowel. This would in turn help in reducing the nutrients that have the capability of causing obesity. Obesity is a widely researched topic in European countries and also in United States. In a research carried out by National Center for Health Statistics, there is an increase in the number of people living with obesity in United States (John Hopkins Medicine, n.d).
